Feet to the Fire Writers’ Workshops at Heritage Senior Living
In 2019, Heritage Senior Living became the first company in Wisconsin to partner with Feet to the Fire Writers’ Workshops® to offer an expressive writing program which engages seniors in creating their own life narratives. This unique program has been shown to promote emotional well-being and foster friendships through the writing and storytelling process.
“Our program is innovative in that we empower people to author their own lives,” said Angela Burton, founder of Feet to the Fire Writers’ Workshops. “We know that writing is therapeutic, but Feet to the Fire also encourages social connection and self-expression through writing, which is beyond valuable.”
This writing program not only engages our residents in a creative way, but also helps to reduce stress, improve self-worth and confidence, and builds a feeling of community. Plus, this reflection on the past produces amazing written works chronicling thoughts, feelings and history that can be passed down for generations to come.
Approximately 5-10 residents at each Heritage community attend the six-week program, which runs continuously throughout the year. Read more about the Heritage Senior Living/Feet to the Fire Writers’ Workshops® partnership in McKnight’s Senior Living!
